On September 11, 2020, PXG Founder Bob Parsons traveled to Lake Charles, Louisiana to see Hurricane Laura’s wide-spread devastation firsthand. While there were few words to describe the scene, the resolute spirit of the local community, championed by Team Rubicon’s volunteers, shone through.

Twenty-four hours before the storm made landfall, it was a category one, maybe a category two, and they were expecting a 15- to-20-foot storm surge – that’s what we were preparing for. And then literally, over the course of 12 hours, it went from the category one, approaching two to category four, approaching five.

We were on the ground the morning the sun rose after the storm hit. It was a top-10 storm in U.S. history. About 72 hours later, we knew that we were not going to raise enough money to run an operation here which was a tragedy.

I sent a text message to Bob. I said, “Bob, the situation is dire,” and then five minutes later, he responded, and he chose to fund it.

Bob is an amazing friend of Team Rubicon. He and his wife, Renee, have been supporting the organization since Hurricane Harvey. The aim of their Foundation is to deliver hope where there is no hope, and I think that probably resonates with the people here.

Here at Team Rubicon, we continue to serve our country. We are powered by those very same men and women who have seen moments like this across our country and around the world – communities in need. They’ve once again raised their hand and said, “I’m here to serve.”

BOB PARSONS, PXG FOUNDER & CEO

Everything we saw was absolutely unbelievable. The devastation was something else!

The thing that impressed me the most was the spirit of the people and, in particular, the people who live down here. They all said, “You know what? We got our lives, we’re healthy. We will get past it.”

The people who were down there with Team Rubicon were just as upbeat, happy that they were making a difference and helping the people here.

That’s what being a family is. A family of Americans. You come together, and when you need it – when somebody stumbles down – there’s a hand reaching back. I tell you what, you always take care of family, and we’ve seen some of the finest examples of that today. As long as we have this, this country is always going to be okay.
